Health Promotion

Colleges Nursery School is proud to be a Health Promoting School. We feel it is very important to promote a healthy lifestyle for all children, families and staff.

We encourage children to enjoy a healthy diet in many ways; for example we ensure they have a healthy snack everyday, families bring fruit to school and we hold termly ‘Health Promoting’ weeks, where parents and carers are invited in to try a variety of snacks enjoyed by the children. Water and milk are freely available throughout every session.

During the ‘Health Promoting’ weeks, we also try to provide extra physical activities that families can enjoy together, for example walks, yogabugs and physical movement sessions.

We have a Health Promoting group comprising staff, health promoting governor and parents/volunteer members. The group meets to draw up and monitor the Nursery’s Health Promotion Action plans.

It has recently completed a plan about children’s personal safety and a Travel plan looking at ways to make the routes to school safer for pedestrians and cyclists.

The school has a policy on being safe in the sun and holds a sun safety week in early summer to highlight the importance of this as well as a general safety week with a variety of activities for children and families.

The group are currently working towards the new National Standards for Health Promoting Schools.
